Don't knock till you've tried it. and if you insist then at least try it anyway :P

What seems weird to some seems right to others. this is not a modern last fifty years thing. This is a way, a dhikr, an expression. that has been passed down through the scholars of islam and the tariq from generation to generation.

Allahu Alam.

Instead of saying 'Allah Allah Allah', why not do as the companions of the Prophet were taught to do and say 'subhanallah, Allahuakbar, Alhamdulillah' or the countless other adhkar? or read and contemplate the greatest dhikr or all, the Quran?

I understand that the goal of all this is to get close to Allah but when I read rarely the websites (like this one) of Sufis, why is the 'way' chosen to get close to God, seem to so ALIEN to the Islamic way taught to us by the Prophet? I mean ... to jump in a hadra? Did the Prophet saw jump around w/ his companions to worship God?

Isn't Islam a religion of intellect? In our quest to get close to God, why do we fall into these weird things? Why? Why can't we get close to God in the WAY that the beloved of Allah told us to? "Say, if you love Allah, then follow me(the prophet)!" (Paraphrased from the Quran)

Alhamdulillah, dear Brother, what powerful dreams of the blessed Prophet (pbuh). It reminds me of the hadith:

Ali, Allah be well-pleased with him, said:

"I visited the Prophet, Allah bless and greet him, with Ja`far (ibn Abi Talib) and Zayd (ibn Haritha). The Prophet, Allah bless and greet him, said to Zayd: "You are my freedman" (anta mawlay), whereupon Zayd began to hop on one leg around the Prophet (hajala). The Prophet, Allah bless and greet him, then said to Ja`far: "You resemble me in my creation and my manners" (ashbahta khalqi wa- khuluqi), whereupon Ja`far began to hop behind Zayd. The Prophet, Allah bless and greet him, then said to me: "You are part of me and I am part of you" (anta minni wa-ana mink) whereupon I began to hop behind Ja`far."

Ya Haqq!

Seriously, you had dreams of the Prophet, may God's blessings and peace be upon him by the count of every tear ever shed in longing to see his noble countenance. Some day insha'Allah.

It's interesting how I feel exhausted after the hadra. When we're jumping it's like I'm trying to pierce the clouds into other-worldly existence to enter His Supreme Court (and I'm not limiting God by a fixed place of up- this is metaphorical). But as I jump, I fly back to my place like a slap in the face. What arrogance have I to think I may enter in the Divine Presence in this state! I feel like collapsing after the height of the hadra to the ground, grounded by my impotence and humanness. I think the Sheikh is incredibly luminous during the Hadra and as he walks around, he rejuvenates us. Our eyes closed we feel the whirl of his wind passing our faces like a breeze of heavenly scent. He moves to each in the "fast lane" and finally stands before them. They are his choir and he is director. Their voices call out and he directs them to the Holies Presence, the Presence of the Subtle, the Presence of the Most Majestic. The caged birds sing out in longing, yearning to be annilated in Him and swim in the ocean of Perfection.
